Battleship TX: 1895 Bell
Summer 2021
OnAim began work on the 1895 Bell for the Battleship Texas by test-polishing small areas on the back of the bell to see how best to move forward with the restoration. After initial tests, OnAim determined that there was a previous, sacrificial lacquer layer protecting the bronze, and OnAim outlined a strategy for removing the lacquer layer and continuing with the polishing and restoration of the bell. OnAim also noted a previous repair to the front of the bell (on the front right hand side underneath and to the right side of the lettering). Bronze filler was used for this repair, due to the similar patination/tarnish buildup on the bronze repair, OnAim believes the repair was done within the service of the bell.
