‘Celebration’ is a single-channel 12-minute QuickTime video (2.58 GB) depicting a candle burning down. Initially, the artwork utilized a commercially available digital media player connected to a display. Both the media player and monitor were powered by a single AC power supply connected to a wall switch. All components were housed within a frame, which was mounted vertically on a wall. While on, the media player played the video on a continuous loop but due to frequent power cycling, the player encountered recurring issues with video file corruption.

To replace the original media player, we installed a Raspberry Pi Zero-2 W, which houses the operating system, video display software, and the source video file. To ensure power compatibility with the Raspberry Pi, a DROK Buck Converter was used to step down the voltage from 12V to 5V. Additionally, we employed a mini-HDMI adapter to establish a connection between the HDMI cable and the Raspberry Pi. Both the Raspberry Pi and the power converter were securely mounted using thermal tape and foam padding.

The Pi Zero-2 W was selected for this project due to its compact size, low power consumption, and integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities, which can facilitate future remote access and maintenance without the need for a physical connection. The Pi Zero-2 W has the added benefit of Read-Only capabilities – minimizing the risk of file corruption.
