Untitled Alabaster Lady by A. Pasquinelli
Summer 2024
The statue of a woman holding a bushel of grapes above her head measures approximately 55” 15” 13”. It sits on top of a round pedestal that measures 3“ 13” 13”. The statue was wired to work as a lamp, with the electrical cord running down the back. The statue was broken in transit, most notably horizontally across the shins and shattering the bowl.
The sculpture underwent a series of restoration and conservation procedures. First, the piece was dusted gently with a paintbrush and its broken edges were consolidated. To provide structural support, holes were drilled into both the top and bottom sections of the sculpture, allowing for the insertion of support rods. The two sections were then adhered together and any remaining cracks were filled with a specially prepared alabaster paste. To replicate the original texture of the alabaster, the partially set material-specific adhesive was dusted with alabaster powder. Finally, the sculpture underwent a deep cleaning process using mineral spirits, q-tips, and cotton pads.
